Susan Mehnert-Kay, M.D. – Chief Medical Officer, Director of the Teaching Health Center and Chief of Family Medicine
Dr. Susan Mehnert–Kay provides leadership and oversight for all medical and related clinical services for Morton Comprehensive Health Services locations across northeast Oklahoma. She also directs the Community Health Center’s Teaching Health Center (THC) for family practice residents in coordination with the University of Oklahoma School of Community Medicine in Tulsa. Morton’s receipt of the award from the THC Health Resources and Services Administration of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services is one of the first in the region. Additionally, Dr. Mehnert-Kay oversees all family medicine services.
She graduated from Oklahoma State University with a bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Science and received a medical doctorage degree from the University of Oklahoma. She completed a three-year residency in Family Medicine at the University of Oklahoma in Tulsa, serving as chief resident.
During the first 21 years of her career, Dr. Mehnert-Kay served as a professor at OU’s Family Medicine residency program, as she saw patients in a private practice in the now University of Oklahoma’s School of Community Medicine in Tulsa.
Dr. Mehnert-Kay is Board-certified in Family Medicine, a member of American Academy of Family Physicians, American Medical Association, Oklahoma Academy of Family Physicians and Tulsa County Medical Society. Additionally, she has served as the volunteer medical director of the SANE program in Tulsa for over 20 years.
Michael Montague, PA-C, MPAS – Director of the Physician Assistant Program
Michael Montague is director of the Physician Assistant program. As director, he oversees the training of PA students from A. T. Still University. The PA students are provided experiential support at Morton. Additionally, Montague has served as a full scope family practice and primary care provider and in a number of leadership positions on the organization’s executive team for over 14 years.
He has consistently worked to assure primary cares services for those most in need and to help eliminate health disparities in Oklahoma communities.
Montague is a licensed Physician Assistant, and previously served in the U.S. Navy as an Independent Duty Hospital Corpsman, working in both clinical and military settings. He has a bachelor’s degree of Science-Physician Assistant from the College of Health Sciences in Roanoke, VA, and a master’s degree of Physician Assistant Studies from the University of Nebraska.
Montague is also an active member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants and the Oklahoma Academy of Physician Assistants.
Dr. Calysta Beatty is director of the Dental Department. She supervises and directs the dental operations and its personnel at Morton Comprehensive Health Services.
Before joining Morton, Dr. Beatty served as dental chair of operations at Crusader Community College Health in Rockford, Ill, and dental director at Southern Dominion Health System in Victoria, Va.
She is licensed to practice in Illinois, Oklahoma and Virginia. Dr. Beatty is a member of the American Dental Association and a graduate of ADA’s Institute of Diversity in Leadership, and is a member of the National Network for Oral Health Access and the National Oral Health Council.
Dr. Copp is the director of optometry. He directs the operations of the department and the services ranging from eye exams to comprehensive diabetic and hypertensive dilated exams to onsite optical frame selections among other services.
Prior to joining Morton, he was a clinical professor at the Cherokee Nation Rural Health Clinic, an optometrist at Loving Eye Care and TLC Laser Eye Center.
He is a honor graduate for the Advanced Individual Training in Fort Sill, Okla., and was a Battalion Soldier of the Month and Soldier of the Quarter, and was the Top Colt in 2001 with the highest individual score on the written exam.
Dr. Copp is a graduate Northeastern State University receiving his doctor of optometry and undergraduate degree in business administration. He also has an associate degree in liberal arts from Tulsa Community College.
